The contest is a learning experience. Your students learn by doing — sometimes what they learn is why something didn't work. That counts too.
DO THIS
- ✓Facilitate the process — don't hand them the answer
- ✓Help them define small, observable problems
- ✓Connect the team with people in the community
- ✓Review the pitch once, not ten times
- ✓Celebrate failing early as a form of learning
AVOID THIS
- ✗Don't solve the technical problem for the team
- ✗Don't impose the topic — listen to their interests
- ✗Don't edit out their voice in the final pitch
- ✗Don't push for spectacular results
- ✗Don't leave them alone with a deadline
